Department Of History And International Studies, Imo State University has come a long way when it comes to development and positively impacting the student’s lives. The department strives hard in developing student’s ideas, dexterity, and prowess and enables them to benefit massively from research scholarship programs.
The department also expands the student’s mental horizon by allowing them to study courses relating to Law, Nature Science, and Social Science.
While still studying, the department introduces what is known as Project work, which allows the students to make high-level research work, do their findings and conclusion. Eight (8) to twelve (12) students are put under the supervision of each lecturer to handle and supervise in their ongoing project works.
After the student might have submitted their works, the lecturers guide them on places to make proper corrections in their works. When the project work is done, the student proceeds to submit the project work which would be graded by their supervisor. Project works usually carry the highest credit unit course with a unit of six (6).
After 4 years in the course, the students are required to study the following languages, German, French, and Russian for one (1) year. This program no doubt is meant to equip students of man’s experiences and man’s societal environment.

- As an Aspirant, you must have obtained at least five (5) credits in your O’Level leaving certificate which includes either Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), General Certificate of Education (GCE), or National Examination Council (NECO).
What are the five (5) credited subjects you should possess?

- History and Government,
- additional two subjects.
- As a candidate, you must score at least 180 in your Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination. 180 is the required cut off point for all universities in Nigeria, not just in Imo State.
- You must be able to score at 180-200 in the school/department UTME examination. If you score 179, you may not be considered for the admission process.
